Hebrides Ensemble: Beethoven / Goya
November 3 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, Beethoven / Goya brings two revolutionary artists into dialogue through live music, art and spoken word.
Working at the dawn of the nineteenth century, Beethoven and Goya lived through periods of profound personal and political upheaval. This performance explores the striking parallels between their lives and work, and how each transformed personal challenges into art of extraordinary power.
Praised by The Guardian for their “vivid, beautifully judged performances”, musicians from Hebrides Ensemble perform a sequence of movements from Beethoven’s string quartets, tracing a path from the invention and energy of his early works to the emotional depth and intensity of his late music.
Interwoven with the artists’ own words, projections of Goya’s striking paintings and new music by Sonia Allori, whose composition Random eddies (In the space time continuum) was described by Disability Arts Online as “a deliciously ethereal work”, this performance will create a richly layered conversation between music, image and text.
Part of Beethoven is Everywhere, celebrating Beethoven’s extraordinary legacy, 200 years after his death.
