DESCRIPTION:Venue:\n\nThe Glass Tank\, Oxford Brookes University\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nMonday\, 26 January 2026 to Friday\, 6 February 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n9am – 5pm\n\n\n\nCost:\n\n0\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the sublime beauty of techniques of visual repair across cultures\, these works invite reflection on brokenness and why it matters. \nIn recent years\, the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery using lacquer\, often embellished with gold or other precious metals\, known as ‘kintsugi’ has fascinated and inspired not only contemporary artists\, but also pscyhologists\, philosophers\, scientists and archaeologists. But the idea of caring for something that is broken and finding beauty in its imperfection resonates much more widely. Whether we are living with the painful yet precious memories of loss\, or trying to reassemble places of belonging from the remnants of abandoned buildings\, brokenness and repair speak to our fundamental ways of being in the world. \nThrough sculpture\, sound\, images\, and pottery\, this exhibition creates a space of dialogue between Japanese aesthetics of brokenness and repair and those of other cultures. DESCRIPTION:Sat 14 & Sun 15 Feb 2026\n11am–4pm\nBringing together communities and faiths of Oxfordshire\n\nJoin us as we celebrate the many communities and faiths of Oxfordshire with a dazzling array of activities\, performances\, talks\, and crafts for all ages\, taking place throughout the Museum. \nThis year’s theme for our annual One World Family Festival is Nature. From traditional Chinese and Nepalese dance to eco-pilgrimage lantern-making and Moroccan moon stories\, there’s something for everyone at this fantastic weekend festival. \nAll events are drop-in. Spaces are limited and can fill up at busy times.  \nAs the festival is free\, we welcome families and visitors to consider a suggested donation of £6 to help support the event. \n  \nAccess information\n\nA quiet prayer room will be available from 10am–4pm on both days for rest\, prayer\, personal reflection or meditation.\nThere is British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation for some events on Sat14 Feb\, please see programme for details.\nThe Museum offers level access throughout\, with ramps at the entrance and lifts to all floors. DESCRIPTION:Venue:\n\nThe Glass Tank\, Oxford Brookes University\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nMonday\, 26 January 2026 to Friday\, 6 February 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n9am – 5pm\n\n\n\nCost:\n\n0\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the sublime beauty of techniques of visual repair across cultures\, these works invite reflection on brokenness and why it matters. \nIn recent years\, the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery using lacquer\, often embellished with gold or other precious metals\, known as ‘kintsugi’ has fascinated and inspired not only contemporary artists\, but also pscyhologists\, philosophers\, scientists and archaeologists. But the idea of caring for something that is broken and finding beauty in its imperfection resonates much more widely. Whether we are living with the painful yet precious memories of loss\, or trying to reassemble places of belonging from the remnants of abandoned buildings\, brokenness and repair speak to our fundamental ways of being in the world. \nThrough sculpture\, sound\, images\, and pottery\, this exhibition creates a space of dialogue between Japanese aesthetics of brokenness and repair and those of other cultures. Step into a world of legends with Story Explorers\, our creative day-long skills workshops for ages 8–12. \n\nIn expertly devised days designed with fun in mind\, your child(ren) will be in safe hands in an inspiring and friendly environment\, led by our experienced Learning team. We’ll meet legendary heroes\, discover mighty beasts and venture deep into magical lands in a series of interactive workshops and activities. Adventure awaits—are you ready to explore? \nArrive in the morning with a drink and a packed lunch\, wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy – we’ll take care of the rest! \n‘I want to come here every day!’ – Story Explorer participant \nWhat to expect? \nThe Story Explorers focus on play\, drama\, craft and of course – stories! The workshops are led by our Learning Team\, as well as visiting artists. It’s a chance to learn new skills\, meet new friends and best of all – have fun! \nHow the day works: \nDrop off at 10:00\nYour child will be welcomed and checked in by one of our Learning team\, before moving up to the Magic Common Room\, our learning studio\, inspired by Hogwarts. We’ll begin the morning with fun warm-up games\, before moving on to hands-on activities and storytelling. \nLunch break: a supervised lunch* in The Triangle. In the morning you’ll discover your inner hero with the story of the great Hercules. Along the way we’ll play fun games and activities including finding your super hero name\, deciding on your superpower or special skill and setting our own challenges or ‘labours’. In the afternoon you will meet award award-winning author & illustrator\, Bethan Woollvin and step into the world of Robin Hood with an interactive storytelling session and creative writing workshop inspired by the book. Beth will share exclusive insights into her creative process. \nWednesday 18 February: Legends with with Tom Hardwidge\, Creative Director of Tall Story Games\nToday we’ll dive deep into the world of legends\, travelling through magic forests\, and meeting strange beasts and mighty characters along the way\, including the fearsome basilisk\, magical unicorns and an immortal phoenix. We’ll have fun building new stories featuring legendary creatures and maybe your own creations. In the afternoon you’ll dream up and design your own legendary video game character with Tom Hardwidge\, Creative Director of Tall Story Games. Together you’ll explore theme\, genre\, abilities\, and personality—then bring your creation to life on an A4 page. Along the way\, Tom will lift the lid on how games are made\, sharing behind-the-scenes secrets from Tall Story Games’ award-winning adventures Lucy Dreaming and Heir of the Dog.\n\nThursday 19 February: Magical Maps with with director\, Tristan Jackson Pate\nToday we will open some of the extraordinary fantasy maps created by authors such as Tolkien\, CS Lewis\, L.Frank Baum. We’ll turn the Magic Common Room into a map room and create a fantasy world from our imaginations. Have you ever wanted to be the tour guide to a fantasy world? Well\, now’s your chance! In the afternoon you’ll work with director\, Tristan Jackson Pate and create an audio guide to your magical landscape! Think of it like Narnia\, Wonderland\, or Treasure Island – but this time\, it’s your imagination leading the way. Tristan is an award-winning theatre director & writer and professional audio guide creator for UK sightseeing tours including City Sight Seeing Oxford. \nWe believe in making the arts accessible to all.\nBursaries are available to cover fees and travel costs for low-income families. A medium that began to flourish in the late fifteenth century and has become the workhorse of drawing utensils.
