SUMMARY:Song of Myself (Display)
DESCRIPTION:Song of Myself\, 1995\, Tom Phillips RA (1937–2022)\, wire\, 360 x 180 cm.\nCredit: Estate of Tom Phillips CBE RA \nTom Phillips described Song of Myself as “an attempt to list the various identities that go to make a single artistic life”. The work borrows its title from a poem in Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. Its beginning is based on the confessional Anglo-Saxon poem\, The Seafarer\, which Phillips first came across as an undergraduate at St Catherine’s College\, Oxford. \nWithin the work\, the alert reader will find further references\, direct or cryptic\, to Homer\, Plato\, Dante\, Cervantes\, Shakespeare\, Marvell\, Conrad\, R. L. Stevenson; to the music of Wagner and Robert Schumann; and to the films of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles. The text is littered with echoes of Phillips’s own artistic preoccupations: as a painter\, calligrapher\, user of stencils and maker of books. \nPhillips first made a pencil drawing of the text\, then worked with the fabricator Leo Verryt to realise the work in wire\, as a hanging poem. Other versions of the text exist\, one in a series of paintings called Curriculum Vitae (No XX\, 1992)\, and another in Self Portrait in Silver (2004). Phillips writes: “The unity of the piece in which letters are tortured into cooperation hopes to reflect an overall homogeneity in the spirit of its maker”. \nThe Bodleian Libraries also has the Tom Phillips archive in our collection.

SUMMARY:the Elusive 4th Dimension - Meta Mythology & the Art of Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nThe Earth\, Time and the Spaces around its Reality always move\, but your Mind must remain Still\, because “We are the measure of All Things.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI AM THAT I AM & Prologues & Parables – the Mythologies of Human Reality. \nHuman Intervention. \nThere are overruling Archonic systems\, thriving on the separation of collective unity\, through disconcertments\, to siphon the individual Emotions of the Ego whilst it is distracted by insignificance. \nThe economics of this global world is a flawed logic\, forcing us to act against our will\, whereas\, if through deliberate choice\, we endure its suffering in collective Silence\, reality’s corrupt reasoning will sabotage itself. \nThe choice to endure Suffering is the Power of the Empty Mind; this is not Weakness. \nBut let us now SEE\, instead\, through role reversals if reality can tolerate neglect to its illusory desires\, thus\, opposing suffering on its systems\, in the way its reality subjects its Archonic afflictions on the World. It will not survive its own sinister Night\, because its Evil cannot face nor can it generate power of itself. \nAethenics is the Alchemical Gold @ we find at either end of the Rainbow. \nIt is the evolutionary Heart of the esoteric known\, but moreover\, the esotericisms of the unknown; therefore\, “All is Mind & the Universe\, its Mentalism.” \nThe Earth\, Time\, the Universe and Cosmos and all the Spaces around their Reality all move\, but your Mind is the Middleway of all Aethers; thus\, it must remain Still\, because “We are the measure of All Things.” \nBy the WILL of the Universe\, every human can ask Questions to discern if Reality is an individual’s Dream\, or if it is the works of “Global Illusions”. First\, however\, we must know to whom these questions should be asked. \nBut Be Ye Warned\, to whom your questions are posed. \nTo ask questions of divinity without first knowing the riddles of our own hearts are doors that will remain closed; whereas\, if the questions posed are to the Infernal\, they will be answered by Archonic substitutes that will sell us anything to prove the unbecomingness of our transcendence. \nHere is the 1st of many Mythological Allegories that will help guide your questions: \nSee Saw Hypothesis – “If you want to go up\, then someone has to go down” \nIf you Believe God made Heaven\, then God also made Hell. \nTo validate the belief in a place of paradise\, against a place of damnation\, is to accept that some Souls will have to suffer for heaven’s eternity. \nBut which Souls should be made to suffer? \nYour soul\, or your enemies\, your families\, or your friends\, all of whom\, as we are taught\, are supposedly children of Consciousness. But regardless of this flawed logic\, it is a timeless message where many will have to be damned. \nWould you be willing to give your life for someone else’s salvation\, where\, in the hands of an iconic divinity\, it could be a choice where everyone experiences transcendence? \nAnd if your sacrifice was witnessed by them\, but yet not intervened\, who then is the supreme being? \nDoes this myth as a metaphoric truth sound like the work of a “Life Eternal “ or the influence of Fear? \nIs this an elaborate hoax of a sinister jester\, pertaining to an egotistic supremacy which gains its power from our Praise and acts out Vengeance in our vulnerability? \nIf so\, then the tantamount of our lives is the circus act of Colosseum’s\, where fate is already decided as entertainment\, where some Ascend\, whilst others Fall. \nShould we wish to meet life’s true maker\, be biased not toward a paradise nor its flame\, for they are the same place. This example of heaven versus hell is not divinity\, but an ancient Human construct of mental and spiritual tyranny\, feasting on human instabilities\, that force emotional burdens that cause suffering. \nTo chase favour as you would chase any delusion of reality for success\, money\, influence or to enter the falsehoods of paradise\, whilst knowing others will be forsaken\, is to decree subservience to the Gatekeepers of the shadows\, all of whom will prevent the Light by taking our flame\, whereas\, the transcendence of a true deity would allow us to Discover & Create truth for ourselves\, for that is what “LOVE” is \nLife is the hidden sanctums written within you that no one can take\, unless if your Light is unknown\, is given freely under duress\, in poor exchanges for “This Reality”. \nThis is the gentrified farming of your Soul\, and the original “SIN\, “ in not “Knowing Thy Self.” To carelessly volunteer the coded properties of divinity locked in the heart that we\, its custodians\, were never permitted to sell\, nor for the demons of authority to take. \nThe Heart\, physically\, allegorically\, mythologically and parabolically\, is an incandescent technology of the Mind we\, in the honour of life\, are each sworn in as humans to protect from Evil. \nYou can enrol TODAY for the Cognitive Positioning Systems & Atlas (UltraViolet Mind or Numerical Indexing) Introductions\, any day @7pm UK TIME and learn the questions to become.”…the Dreams of the Worlds\, Reality won’t see coming…” \nReview the Navigation Charts of the Elusive 4th Dimension and visit the UK Website to join the “Quadrivium” or WhatsApp Network. \nGavin Gooden – Mythologist\, Author\, Philosopher & Virtuoso of the 9 Liberal Arts of LIFE \nMind ReMapping \n“the Consciousness Anonymi …” @ Meta Tech Organica \nDesign 4 Time Design 4 Space

SUMMARY:Brokenness and repair exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Venue:\n\nThe Glass Tank\, Oxford Brookes University\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nMonday\, 26 January 2026 to Friday\, 6 February 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n9am – 5pm\n\n\n\nCost:\n\n0\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the sublime beauty of techniques of visual repair across cultures\, these works invite reflection on brokenness and why it matters. \nIn recent years\, the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery using lacquer\, often embellished with gold or other precious metals\, known as ‘kintsugi’ has fascinated and inspired not only contemporary artists\, but also pscyhologists\, philosophers\, scientists and archaeologists. But the idea of caring for something that is broken and finding beauty in its imperfection resonates much more widely. Whether we are living with the painful yet precious memories of loss\, or trying to reassemble places of belonging from the remnants of abandoned buildings\, brokenness and repair speak to our fundamental ways of being in the world. \nThrough sculpture\, sound\, images\, and pottery\, this exhibition creates a space of dialogue between Japanese aesthetics of brokenness and repair and those of other cultures. Each piece invites visitors to reflect on the complex\, sometimes challenging beauty of brokenness\, and the care and attention involved in repair. \nThe exhibition includes original works from Rob Simpkins\, Katie Taylor\, Johanna Tulloch\, Dan O’Brien\, Natasha Durie\, Juliet Eccles\, and Rachel Barbaresi\, as well as kintsugi pieces by Iku Nishikawa (Oxford Kintsugi). \nAll are invited to join us to meet the artists and organisers over wine and refreshments. \nThis exhibition and reception was made possible through the generous support of the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. \n\n\n\n\nFurther Information\n\nContact Details:\n\n\nhttps://www.brookes.ac.uk/about-brookes/…\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/brokennes… \ndobrien@brookes.ac.uk

SUMMARY:Sounds in Stone
DESCRIPTION:Tickets – £5 (Book Online)\nAbout the event\n‘Sounds in Stone’ is a concert inspired by the museum’s collections\, with music reflecting the story of life\, our planet\, and the universe beyond. Centered on voice and piano\, with special arrangements for oboe\, viola\, and violin\, the programme spans classical and contemporary works—from Copland’s reflections on nature to Britten’s seascapes and Björk’s haunting Jóga. Performed by musicians from the European Space Agency’s climate team\, led by mezzo-soprano Susanne Mecklenburg with pianist William Hancox\, this concert offers a rare meeting of scientific insight and musical expression. Join us for an evening where the history of life resonates through sound as well as stone and stars. The musical pieces will be introduced with specimens that inspired their choice by two of the Museum’s geological research and collections staff; Dr. Ross Anderson and Dr. Duncan Murdock. The event includes a bar and a chance to explore the collections with a drink after dark. \n\nAbout the speaker\nSusanne Mecklenburg\nSusanne performs regularly as a soloist\, giving recitals in Italy\, Switzerland\, Germany and the UK. She came to singing later in life\, consequently her vocal training did not follow the conventional route. Even though she grew up in a musical family in Dresden and learnt classical Spanish guitar at an early age\, she decided to take up a scientific career. After graduating in natural sciences\, Susanne moved to Zurich where she obtained a PhD from the Swiss Institute for Technology. It was there that she returned to music\, receiving vocal training and singing in various music ensembles. In 2001 she moved to England to pursue her scientific career and met her pianist William Hancox at the Dartington International Summer School. From 2007 to 2019 Susanne lived outside Rome\, pursuing both her scientific and musical careers – the former as a Mission Manager for the European Space Agency’s Satellites. Since 2019 she has lived in the UK\, heading ESA’s Climate Office. \nWilliam Hancox \nAfter a degree at Cambridge\, William studied with Joseph Weingarten\, a student of Dohnanyi\, Bartok and Kodaly. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the UK and internationally\, broadcast for Classic FM and the BBC and made a number of recordings. He was a staff pianist at the Guildhall School\, Trinity College of Music and the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh. \nWilliam has performed throughout Europe and made several trips to China\, giving masterclasses and concerts in the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. He has also worked extensively as a vocal coach\, with many students now pursuing successful singing careers. \nRecent projects include a recording of Nicholas Smith’s Love Friendship and Longing\, recitals with distinguished mezzo Louise Winter and a recording of English song with soprano Lorna Windsor. \nFor more information on the performers please visit \nwww.susannemecklenburg.info \nhttps://musicboxwealden.co.uk \nhttps://willhancox.co.uk \nWilliam lives in East Sussex and is deeply involved in music making in his own community. In 2022 he launched Music Box Wealden\, which promotes concerts featuring local artists in the Wealden area. \n\nAccessibility information\n\n\n\n\nWheelchair accessible?\nYes\n\n\nHearing loops?\nYes\n\n\nSeating?\nYes\n\n\nRefreshments?\nNo\n\n\nFlashing lights?\nNo\n\n\nLoud noises?\nNo
