Nat is a recovering alcoholic who has visions of the Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel. \nAnd Pieter\, the great observer of wit and folly\, has something he needs to tell us. \nAs cracks appear in Nat and Gordon’s routines and their story begins to overlap with Pieter’s\, this thought-provoking new tragicomedy grapples with the big questions: what is the difference between community and suffocation? Can creativity be home-grown? And is it a good idea to start a brewery if you don’t like beer? \n\n\n\nDates & Times

SUMMARY:Brokenness and repair exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Venue:\n\nThe Glass Tank\, Oxford Brookes University\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nMonday\, 26 January 2026 to Friday\, 6 February 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n9am – 5pm\n\n\n\nCost:\n\n0\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the sublime beauty of techniques of visual repair across cultures\, these works invite reflection on brokenness and why it matters. \nIn recent years\, the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery using lacquer\, often embellished with gold or other precious metals\, known as ‘kintsugi’ has fascinated and inspired not only contemporary artists\, but also pscyhologists\, philosophers\, scientists and archaeologists. But the idea of caring for something that is broken and finding beauty in its imperfection resonates much more widely. Whether we are living with the painful yet precious memories of loss\, or trying to reassemble places of belonging from the remnants of abandoned buildings\, brokenness and repair speak to our fundamental ways of being in the world. \nThrough sculpture\, sound\, images\, and pottery\, this exhibition creates a space of dialogue between Japanese aesthetics of brokenness and repair and those of other cultures. Each piece invites visitors to reflect on the complex\, sometimes challenging beauty of brokenness\, and the care and attention involved in repair. \nThe exhibition includes original works from Rob Simpkins\, Katie Taylor\, Johanna Tulloch\, Dan O’Brien\, Natasha Durie\, Juliet Eccles\, and Rachel Barbaresi\, as well as kintsugi pieces by Iku Nishikawa (Oxford Kintsugi). \nAll are invited to join us to meet the artists and organisers over wine and refreshments. \nThis exhibition and reception was made possible through the generous support of the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. \n\n\n\n\nFurther Information\n\nContact Details:\n\n\nhttps://www.brookes.ac.uk/about-brookes/…\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/brokennes… \ndobrien@brookes.ac.uk

SUMMARY:The Gardening Drawing Club & (Almost) Ikebana - Talk\, Tour\, Tea & Seed Swap
DESCRIPTION:This artist talk will offer insight into The Gardening Drawing Club -from workshop to publishing\, focusing on (Almost) Ikebana. \n\n\n\n\n(ALMOST) IKEBANA\nThe Gardening Drawing Club \nFrom free workshops to publication \nArtist talk by Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck \nSchedule \n15:30 – 16:45: Artist Talk with introduction by Sam Skinner + Q&A \n16:45 – 17:30: Break with free organic herbal tea\, seed swap\, visit of the exhibition ‘(ALMOST) IKEBANA & RELATED EXPLORATIONS’ in the Gallery @ the School of Arts. \nLocation\nThe School of Arts\nNHHB Building\, Headington Hill\nOxford Brookes University\, OX3 0BP \nAbout\nThis talk will offer insight into Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck’s long-term artistic practice and pedagogical projects by introducing The Gardening Drawing Club\, a collaborative and ecological initiative founded in 2021 that offers free arts and horticulture events for adults in Children in Britain. \nBased on the Oculus Horti Hypothesis\, The Gardening Drawing Club brings together arts\, horticulture\, and collective learning as a form of care\, attention\, togetherness and joy. Since April 2022\, 1859 participants have joined the project.A central focus of the talk will be (Almost) Ikebana\, an ongoing workshop series within The Gardening Drawing Club’s programme that respectfully yet humourously explores the art of Ikebana through drawing\, observation\, improvisation\, flower arranging\, conversations\, and tea. \nTo date\, the ‘(Almost) Ikebana’ workshop has included 17 free public editions\, alongside numerous additional workshops with primary and secondary school pupils\, university students\, and other communities. The series reimagines ikebana not as a fixed discipline\, but as an open\, inclusive practice that encourages attentiveness to materials\, deep ecology\, surroundings\, and transnationalism. The talk will also address the creation of the (Almost) Ikebana publication\, produced in December 2025 in a limited edition of 200 copies during Tagada Hoffbeck’s artist residency in the Fine Art department at Oxford Brookes University. Edited by Johanna and published by Poetic Pastel Press\, the publication extends the ethos of the workshops into print\, documenting processes\, drawings\, and new reflections that continue the project’s emphasis on slowness\, care\, ecology\, spirituality and collective creativity. The publication includes text by George Collum\, Miriam Melake\, Kasia Murfet\, Sam Skinner and Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck. \nThis public event is supported by The School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University.\n6:00 -8:00 pm is the formal exhibition opening and you are welcome to stay for this. \nJohanna has previously given talks on her practice at art and culture institutions including Tate Modern (London)\, Camden Art Centre (London)\, Design Museum (London)\, BOAN1942 (Seoul)\, Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam)\, Archipel Centre de Culture Urbaine Musée des Beaux Arts (Lyon) and The Bodleian Libraries (Oxford). She has also given lectures to institutions including Guggenheim (Abu Dhabi)\, Oxford Brookes University (Oxford) and V&A Academy (London). \nInfo about the Oculus Horti Hypothesis via:https://johannatagada.net/Oculus-Horti-Hypothesis
