Their destination: the breathtaking\, untamed wilderness of western Norway\, a land of majestic peaks and deep fjords\, where they plan to chase their individual dreams amidst the raw beauty of the mountains. Their love story is intertwined with a shared passion for the alpine world\, a bond forged in the exhilarating pursuit of extreme sports. \nFilip Christenson\n30 mins \nMother River\nFollow Devin Brown’s quest to become the first Black woman to kayak the entire Mississippi River. \nJeremiah Schuster\n7 mins \nPoacha’s Journal\nThe essence of freeriding in its purest form. With no script and no rules\, this short film follows four young riders as they explore uncharted territories on their bikes. The film masterfully blends grainy 16mm film with crisp digital cinematography\, creating a vivid and artistic portrayal of the unbridled joy\, freedom\, and pure stoke that only two wheels can deliver. \nPaddy Graham\n5mins \nVautour\nFollowing their impressive “Fond of Font” project\, which saw them complete a remarkable 100 x 7A bouldering challenge\, the dynamic climbing duo of Seb Berthe and Hugo Parmentier are embarking on an ambitious new endeavor. Their latest dream is to tackle a monumental endurance climbing challenge: ascending five major long routes in the breathtaking Verdon Gorge\, all within a single 24-hour period. \nBrian Mathé\n30 mins \nShowing Up\nIn June 2024\, an adventure seeking couple set out to hike the entire length of the European Alps\, on a route called ‘Via Alpina’ – a distance of 2000 kilometers across 145\,000 meters in elevation. No place to hide. \nWelcome to the small hours at George and Martha’s – the alcohol is flowing\, the gloves are off\, and the games are just getting started. \nEdward Albee’s multi award-winning play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a wild\, gripping and darkly funny exploration of the lies we tell to protect ourselves. \nDisillusioned university professor George and his wife Martha invite an unwitting younger couple\, Nick and Honey\, into their home. It’s not long before things spiral\, dragging everyone into the heart of a tempestuous relationship. SUMMARY:Brokenness and repair exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Venue:\n\nThe Glass Tank\, Oxford Brookes University\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nMonday\, 26 January 2026 to Friday\, 6 February 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n9am – 5pm\n\n\n\nCost:\n\n0\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the sublime beauty of techniques of visual repair across cultures\, these works invite reflection on brokenness and why it matters. \nIn recent years\, the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery using lacquer\, often embellished with gold or other precious metals\, known as ‘kintsugi’ has fascinated and inspired not only contemporary artists\, but also pscyhologists\, philosophers\, scientists and archaeologists. But the idea of caring for something that is broken and finding beauty in its imperfection resonates much more widely. Whether we are living with the painful yet precious memories of loss\, or trying to reassemble places of belonging from the remnants of abandoned buildings\, brokenness and repair speak to our fundamental ways of being in the world. \nThrough sculpture\, sound\, images\, and pottery\, this exhibition creates a space of dialogue between Japanese aesthetics of brokenness and repair and those of other cultures. Each piece invites visitors to reflect on the complex\, sometimes challenging beauty of brokenness\, and the care and attention involved in repair. \nThe exhibition includes original works from Rob Simpkins\, Katie Taylor\, Johanna Tulloch\, Dan O’Brien\, Natasha Durie\, Juliet Eccles\, and Rachel Barbaresi\, as well as kintsugi pieces by Iku Nishikawa (Oxford Kintsugi). \nAll are invited to join us to meet the artists and organisers over wine and refreshments. \nThis exhibition and reception was made possible through the generous support of the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. \n\n\n\n\nFurther Information\n\nContact Details:\n\n\nhttps://www.brookes.ac.uk/about-brookes/…\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/brokennes… \ndobrien@brookes.ac.uk

SUMMARY:Mammal Tracks and Signs Day
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: \nConcessions – £35.00 \nMembers – £45.00 \nNon-Members – £55 \n  \nAbout the event\nIn this popular one-day Foundation Course\, expert tracker Bob Cowley will introduce you to all the most common Mammal Tracks and Signs that you might come across when walking in the British countryside\, revealing the wildlife with which we share our space. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced naturalist\, this course will open your eyes to the wide range of Tracks and Signs in the world around you\, and provide you with a systematic approach to interpreting them correctly. Bob will use an innovative combination of PowerPoint presentations together with the study of actual specimens from the Museum collection to help you visualise and associate the different animals with their different tracks. \nBob is also well known for the range of useful verbal mnemonics and visual tricks that he has devised to ensure that all the important information will stick in your mind long after the course has ended. Finally\, Bob will lead a guided walk to show you how to find and interpret examples in the real world. \nBeginner/Intermediate level: This event can be attended by people who have little to no pre-existing knowledge of the topic\, but is also ideal for those with experience who may not have attended a formal course and wish to develop their understanding. \nA CPD certificate will be available on completion of the course. \nThis workshop is run in support of the Mammal Society with all proceeds going to support their conservation work. \n\nRefreshments? – No. Attendees are asked to make their own arrangements for lunch. The Museum has a well-stocked café with a range of fresh food available. \nAbout the instructor\nBob Cowley has always been fascinated by the Tracks & Signs that animals leave behind as evidence of their presence. And since the International Tracker Certification scheme (also known as CyberTracker) reached the UK in 2012\, Bob has been one of its most active participants and advocates. He is now one of the few ‘Level 3 Trackers’ in Europe\, having been certified at that level in both the tracking disciplines\, ‘Track and Sign’ and ‘Trailing’. \nAs well as learning all he can about this neglected ancient skill\, Bob is equally committed to passing on that knowledge. A good understanding of ‘Track and Sign’ is an invaluable asset for any professional ecologist\, zoological researcher or student\, as well as being an excellent way of connecting people to the wildlife that lives around them. \nIn addition to the Mammal Society\, Bob has led workshops for a variety of other local and national organisations\, including the Field Studies Council\, the Woodland Trust\, and Oxford University. He has also been an invited speaker at the International Tracking Symposium every year since its inception in 2022\, and is in daily contact with other elite trackers from all over the world. \nBob has been involved in the Oxfordshire Mammal Group since its formation in 2014\, currently serving as Vice Chair. He has been particularly involved with OxMG’s outreach and education work\, organising public talks\, both in-person and online\, and establishing a dedicated YouTube channel to enable the talks to reach a wider (indeed world-wide) audience. \n\nAccessibility information\n\n\n\n\nWheelchair accessible?\nYes\n\n\nHearing loops?\nYes\n\n\nSeating?\nYes\n\n\nRefreshments?\nNo\n\n\nFlashing lights?\nNo\n\n\nLoud noises?\nNo

SUMMARY:FRENCH ARTIST COMMUNITIES TALK 4: THE FAUVES
DESCRIPTION:Sat 21 Feb 2026\, 11am–12pm\n\n\n\n\nAt the Museum and Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event takes place in-person at the Museum\, and online via Zoom. \nPlease note the in-person talk is now fully booked. You can still book tickets for the online talk \nTickets are £8 each. Booking is essential. Book below \n\nWith Juliet Heslewood\, Author and Art Historian \nThe last in a series of four talks examining four communities of French artists: The Barbizon school\, the Painters of Pont Aven. Van Gogh and Gauguin in Arles\, and The Fauves – the ‘Wild Beasts’ of the Mediterranean. \nJust over a 100 years ago\, St Tropez was a small fishing village on the Mediterranean\, accessible only by boat. The painter Signac\, who loved sailing\, encouraged others to join him there. \nWhen Matisse visited\, he\, like others\, followed Signac’s Pointillist style but on reaching Collioure\, further along the coast\, he pursued his own ideas\, struck by the brilliant sunlight and dared to use colour in a vibrant un-naturalistic way.  He was joined by Derain who painted in a similar style that caused them to be called Fauves – wild beasts. \nTogether with others\, they created a startling view of the coast that was innovative but well represented their unique experience of this popular part of the world. \n \nLe bonheur de vivre\, Henri Matisse\, 1905-1906\, Oil on canvas. In the collection of the Barnes Foundation \n\n  \nThere are 4 talks in this series. Each talk needs to be booked separately: \n\nTalk 1 – The Barbizon School – Sat 15 Nov 2025\nTalk 2 – The Pont Aven Painters – Sat 13 Dec 2025\nTalk 3 – Van Gogh & Gauguin – Sat 24 Jan 2026\nTalk 4 – The Fauves – Sat 21 Feb 2026\n\nThis event is part of our Connect & Collaborate season of events. \n\nBOOKING\nThis event takes place in-person at the Museum\, and online via Zoom. \nThe in-person talk is now fully booked but you can still book for the online talk \nTickets are £8 each. SUMMARY:Wonderland Tea
DESCRIPTION:A new show from the Woods of Widdershins\, with puppets\, storytelling\, original music and a fantastical fairytale forest. Perfect for ages 4 to 10. \n\nSnow White and Rose Red – sisters\, twins\, best friends – have lived in the forest since they were Babes in the Wood. Brought up by their hardworking mother to be kind\, caring and forest fluent… if sometimes a little over enthusiastic in their deeds! When their quiet life is interrupted by a friendly bear a new chapter begins. But why has the bear chosen them as playfellows? Why is there sadness in his eyes? And who on earth is that rude little man with a ridiculously long beard that they keep bumping into? \nAll questions will be untangled in this new show from the Woods of Widdershins\, using puppets\, storytelling\, original music and a fantastical fairytale forest. \nChildren must be accompanied and adults require their own tickets. \nFor ages 4 to 10 \n“This quietly dazzling show reminds us of the elemental power of storytelling – how it can coax out wonder\, empathy\, and joy with the simplest of tools: a puppet\, a voice\, and a forest made of dreams” (Cor Blimey *****)

SUMMARY:Good Neighbours
DESCRIPTION:Good Neighbours head out on their UK tour in support of their debut album Blue Sky Mentality\, a 14-track burst of euphoric indie pop that smuggles big feelings – grief\, love\, hope\, resilience – into massive choruses and sun-streaked synths. \nWritten across a whirlwind year of long-haul flights\, tour buses\, hotel rooms and emotional highs and lows\, the album captures the tension between distance and belonging – the pull of community\, the need for connection\, and the journey back to yourself. It’s a record that wears its heart loudly and proudly.
