SUMMARY:Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi\, The Four Seasons
DESCRIPTION:A unique concert will take place at the cosy Holywell Music Room on the 23rd of May. \nJoin us for an evening featuring the famous Antonio Vivaldi cycle «The Four Seasons» in the unique interpretation of contemporary composer Max Richter\, performed by the extraordinary Mystery Ensemble. \nMax Richter is the composer of music for dozens of feature films and documentaries. The European Film Academy voted him the best film composer in 2008. He reinterpreted Antonio Vivaldi’s music in the spirit of minimalism and postmodernism. Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi\, The Four Seasons is one of Richter’s most famous works. After its release in 2012\, the recording topped the iTunes Classical Music charts in over 20 countries. \nMax Richter has recorded 12 solo albums and performed at the London Barbican\, the Paris Philharmonic\, the Sydney Opera and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw\, and among his projects are the Sum Opera and the Infra ballet (choreographed by Wayne MacGregor) at Covent Garden. Richter’s music is heard in many performances around the world\, as well as in the films «Shutter Island» by Martin Scorsese\, «Last Love on Earth» by David Mackenzie\, and «Waltz with Bashir»\, for the soundtrack to which he received the award «Best Composer» from the European Film Academy. \nThe Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi is one of the most famous and frequently performed works of classical music. The Italian master wittily and gracefully captured in music the way his contemporaries saw the world and nature. The Vivaldi cycle is both a philosophical reflection on a magnificent illustrated «calendar» and a «sightseeing tour» of Italy. \nDuration: 60 minutes \nDoors open at least 30 minutes before the concert. \nOut of respect for guests and performers\, late entry may not be permitted. We cannot guarantee your original seats after the concert begins. \nAbout venue \nHolywell Music Room is one of Europe’s most historic and distinguished concert halls\, located in the heart of Oxford. Opened in 1748\, it is the oldest purpose-built music room in Europe still in regular use — a space that has welcomed centuries of musicians\, scholars\, and audiences. \nThe Hall’s elegant Georgian architecture\, refined proportions\, and beautifully restored interior create an atmosphere of intimacy and grace. Soft natural light\, classical detailing\, and a finely balanced acoustic make the space uniquely suited to chamber music\, vocal recitals\, and historically informed performances. \nRenowned for its clarity and warmth of sound\, Holywell Music Room offers an exceptional listening experience where every nuance can be heard with precision and depth. Its relatively compact capacity ensures a close connection between performer and audience\, preserving the spirit of 18th-century salon concerts while supporting contemporary artistic excellence. \nIn the scholarly and cultural heart of Oxford\, Holywell Music Room stands as a testament to the enduring power of live performance — a venue where history\, intellect\, and music converge in perfect harmony. \nPerformers  \nMystery Ensemble \nMystery Ensemble is a group of professional musicians performing unique programs in non-standard venues around the UK. \nExperience outstanding works from different eras\, experimental music\, tributes\, and world soundtracks of films and series\, as well as absolutely unique programs and immersive shows. All music is presented in the author’s arrangements. With the possibility of independent program selection\, unexpected locations\, and the flexibility of the format\, our team of professional musicians is inspired to bring their favourite music to life. \nFounded in 2021\, our contemporary music studio has grown rapidly\, with over 40 shows in the UK in its first year of performing. Our founder\, Almin Alexander\, has devoted more than 12 years to the music industry and the development of cultural initiatives worldwide\, working with many outstanding musicians and musical groups. \nThe ensemble’s repertoire is incredible. Just look at some of the programs so dearly loved by our viewers: these are tribute concerts of such great composers as Ludovico Einaudi\, Hans Zimmer\, John Williams\, Ólafur Arnalds\, Joe Hisaishi\, or the minimalists’ John Cage and David Lang\, along with At the same time\, the ensemble performs popular soundtracks from sensational TV shows and movies: Wednesday\, The Young Pope\, Harry Potter\, a variety of Disney and Pixar films\, Pirates of the Caribbean\, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit saga\, Spencer\, Star Wars and others. There is also the unique music of Enigma and Enya\, combined with neoclassical music\, world rock hits\, and tributes to the legendary Michael Jackson\, Queen\, and the Beatles. For lovers of the classics\, the ensemble collection includes music by W.A. Mozart\, J.S. Bach\, L.V. Beethoven\, R. Wagner\, I. Strauss\, P.I. Tchaikovsky\, S.V. Rachmaninov\, and other key composers. And much more. Every month\, the studio releases new programs and updates the existing repertoire. \nFor some projects\, the team gathers as part of a chamber or small symphony orchestra. \nJoin us and experience the creative energy and passion that drives our team to bring music to life in unforgettable ways! \nProgramme  \nMax Richter — On the Nature of Daylight \nMax Richter — The New Four Seasons — Vivaldi Recomposed Spring \nMax Richter — The New Four Seasons — Vivaldi Recomposed Summer \nMax Richter — The New Four Seasons — Vivaldi Recomposed Autumn \nMax Richter — The New Four Seasons — Vivaldi Recomposed Winter \n*Please note that the programme is subject to changes

SUMMARY:Rag Rugging with Mandy Smith Wills
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nJoin Mandy Smith Wills as you learn the fun art of rag rugging in person! \n\n\n\n\nRag Rugging with Mandy Smith Wills\nI work in textiles and ceramics. My textile practise is centred around up cycling \nfabrics and garments into rag rugs and patchwork. \nI enjoy the process of using something which has been discarded and making a \nuseful and beautiful item from it. Diverting material from land fill is satisfying. I also \nrelish the tradition of these crafts and their cultural significance in the lives of women \nin the past and enjoy keeping the tradition alive\, while my design inspirations are \nmore contemporary. \nI have been making rag rugs for 15 years. I was inspired by seeing rag rugs in folk \nmuseums and the historic homes of working people. My family history also includes \na tradition of rag rug making\, but sadly no examples or pictures exist. \nThis is an inexpensive hobby and an art form that requires little in the way of tools \nor bought materials. It is quick easy to learn\, and designs can be as simple or \ncomplex as you like. It has the advantage of being something one can do while \nchatting to friends\, listening to an audio book or podcast or with one eye on the TV! It \ndoes not require studio space and can be stashed away when you are not actively \nworking on it. Therefore\, it is ideal for those with limited space. It also keeps fingers \nand hands flexible and out of the biscuit tin. So\, what are you waiting for? \nOn this course I will. \nTeach you the two main traditional rag rug stitches. \nDemonstrate how to go from a sketch\, photograph\, or other image to a design on \nyour rug. \nDiscuss the materials needed to make a rug and how to go about preparing them. \nShow you how to finish your rug. \nShare tips I have learnt along the way. \nGet you started on your first sample piece. \nMaterials will be provided; however\, it would be lovely if you could bring a pair of \nscissors for cutting fabric or a rotary fabric cutter for your own use. It would also be \nideal if you could bring couple of discarded clean garments in a lightweight cotton or \njersey\, plain\, soft\, worn\, items are ideal. Stains\, rips\, and logos are not a problem. \nI look forward to meeting you.

SUMMARY:The Seven Sins of Tango by Candlelight - 29th May\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nChampion dancers and 12-piece ensemble bring Piazzolla’s fiery tango to life with electrifying flair \n\n\n\n\nThe Seven Sins of Tango is the powerful and exciting new show for 2026\, bringing the smouldering soundworld of Argentine tango vividly to life. Performed by a 12-piece ensemble from the world-renowned London Concertante\, the programme brings the art of tango to life in all its raw\, unbridled intensity\, with fresh colours from Buenos Aires filling the space with sound. \nThe concert unfolds across seven musical chapters\, each inspired by one of the deadly sins: Lust\, Gluttony\, Greed\, Sloth\, Wrath\, Envy\, and Pride. Together\, they form a compelling narrative arc that explores the dark origins\, passion\, rebellion\, and irresistible allure at the heart of tango. \nThe programme features iconic works by Astor Piazzolla (Suite del Diablo – Suite of the Devil)\, Francisco de Caro (Orgullo Criollo – Creole Pride)\, and Jacob Gade (Jalousie – Jealousy)\, with new arrangements by celebrated pianist and composer David Gordon\, breathing fresh life into tango’s sensual and fiery soundworld. \nEnhancing the music\, two champion tango dancers appear on stage at key moments\, bringing selected pieces to life through expressive choreography that reflects the emotional intensity of the score.

SUMMARY:FORAGE & NIBBLE near Oxford (Oxfordshire)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nA 3-hour session with a foraging expert\, including ID work\, tasting wild ingredients and a wild snack near Oxford \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is designed to get you as involved as possible – this includes identifying\, picking and tasting a range of wild species that will be found on the day. There will also be samples of wild food and drink for everyone to get stuck into and a pre-made wild snack!\n\nThe focus with all of our workshops is on the 4 ‘F’s of Foraging: Fungi\, Fruit\, Flowers and Foliage. We aim for an array of these elements on every session we run (weather and season permitting!) \n\n\n\n\nEvent sold out or can’t make this date? Head to www.foragebox.co.uk/workshops or view our Eventbrite profile to browse all available sessions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat To ExpectOur ‘Forage & Nibble’ workshops are exactly that: you will spend the day learning how to forage with your tutor and then be treated to a ‘wild snack’ to put it all into context! These have become our most popular events and are available at numerous locations around the country. \nDURATION: 3 hours (approx 2.5 hours of foraging and 30 mins preparing and eating your wild snack) \nWe like to keep some elements a surprise for the day\, but here is what you can expect from your foraging workshop: \n\na short introduction regarding the safety and format of the day\n\n\ndiscussions around foraging tips\, safety\, ethics\, etiquette\, sustainability and the law\n\n\na circular walking route taking in different growing environments around the site. Expect a route of around 2-3km predominantly on footpaths\n\n\na closer look at edible wild species and any poisonous lookalikes by a professional forager\n\n\na chance to slow the pace of modern life down\, meet new people and immerse yourself in a soul-nourishing activity\, reconnecting with nature and discovering new flavours\n\n\nsmall tasters of wild food – this may even include freshly-picked items straight from the wild and a wild snack. Your wild snack might be something we find on the day freshly cooked in the woods\, a hunk of homemade sourdough with some wild pickles and preserves\, or even a big slice of cake (our tutors are decent cooks too so it could be something even better!)\n\n\nour workshops are run in a welcoming and informal fashion\, where attendee questions and contributions are encouraged\n\n\nafter the event\, you will be sent a follow-up email containing a list of everything we found on the day. Please do not expect photos or descriptions in this email – it is purely a list for reference purposes\, and we find it helps people do further research in their own time.\n\nPlease note: as with most of our events\, this is an educational experience and not a ‘basket-filling’ session. \nAt the end of the session\, there may be a small selection of our wild products and workshop vouchers available to purchase (card and cash accepted). This is a recent element of our events after enough attendees made enquiries about it – there is no pressure to buy anything having already bought tickets but sometimes people want a souvenir to take with them! Please speak to your tutor about this at the end. \n\n\n\nWho Is This Workshop For?These events are perfect for everyone – families\, bushcrafters and dog-walkers alike! Nobody is made to feel out of their depth or silly for not knowing what certain things are\, so these events suit absolute novices to more experienced hobby foragers alike. \nWe strongly believe that foraging is for everyone\, with all demographics welcome\, regardless of age\, ability\, gender or ethnicity. \nPlease read our FAQs further down the page to find out about dogs\, children and mobility. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATIONKIT LIST: What to bring with you \nDIETARY REQUIREMENTS: You will be asked for any dietary requirements when completing your booking. Please note that our workshops may not be suitable for vegans and coeliacs unless you inform us of these dietary requirements in advance – we may use butter or bread\, for example. Bookings made within 48 hours of the event start time may not allow for your tutor to cater for specific dietary requirements – please get in touch if this is a concern. \nAttendees are encouraged to walk\, cycle or use public transport to get to the destination. \nEXACT MEETING POINT: On the field side of the gate into the field \nGoogle Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JNACsAVYcpxLkova9 \nWhat3Words: https://w3w.co/sailor.shows.activism \nPARKING: Limited on-street parking is available near the meeting point. Please be considerate when leaving your car by parking as close to the adjacent cars as you can\, to allow the maximum number of cars to park. Do not block access or gates. \nTOILETS: Toilets are not available at this venue \nPlease arrive well in time for the start of the workshop\, allowing extra time for the distance from your parked car to the meeting point and any toilet trips – we don’t tend to wait for late-comers! \nYour foraging guide for the day should arrive on site at least an hour before the start and will start gathering the group together approximately 15 minutes before the official start time. If you cannot find your tutor around that time\, there is a chance you are looking in the wrong place\, so please check the event information for the exact location (not the postcode) \nSignage can sometimes be limited\, so keep an eye out for anyone with a foraging basket! \nMinimum number of guests for this event to go ahead: 8 people \nPLEASE NOTE: We do not provide guests with a contact telephone number for your tutor. This is for privacy puropses but also because it is impractical to do so – your tutor simply wouldn’t be able to take a call whilst with a group. If you need to get in contact\, please use the email function via eventbrite or our website. \nStart getting excited! \nIn advance of your foraging workshop\, we thought you might be interested in the following:\nOur Field Notes website page \n‘What will I find on my Forage Box workshop?’ \nA guide to our workshops formats \nTrustpilot reviews from previous workshop guests \nForage Box TV\, our YouTube channel \nOur website FAQs \nWorkshop Safety Policy\, Cancellation and Other Relevant Information \nOur Safeguarding Policy
