DESCRIPTION:Venue\, Timing and Cost\n\nVenue:\n\nWorkshop Cafe\n\n\n\nDate(s):\n\nFriday\, 6 March 2026\n\n\n\nTiming:\n\n19:30-21:30 (doors 19:00)\n\n\n\nCost:\n\nFree\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is it?\nWe love discovering new music\, and the best way to discover is to share.\nListening Parties are a space to share the music you’re passionate about. You’ll discover something new\, and meet other music enthusiasts.\nThis time we’re thrilled to bring the Listening Party format to the Workshop Cafe.\nHow does it work?\nLike an open mic\, let us know when you arrive if you’ve brought something to share. We’ll have inputs for LP\, CD and for minijack\, and a computer\, so you can bring a track on vinyl\, CD\, on your phone\, or as a name in your head.\nWe’ll have two sessions of music with a short break in between\, and ask you to attentively enjoy every offering as you would at a live gig. We’ll limit contributions to four minutes each so that we can fit in lots of contributions. If you’d like to introduce your track\, we’d like to hear what you love about it.\nWe’ll also have an open Spotify playlist setup that you can add to during the event\, if what you hear inspires you – we’ll play the night’s bespoke playlist during the break and after the formal sharing part of the evening is over.\nTheme for this edition\nThis edition of our Listening Parties celebrates International Women’s Day. We’ll explore contemporary music by and about women in any genre\, including both cis and trans women and non-binary people whose gender includes woman. Here are some ideas to get you started:\nMusic inspired by the legacy of some pioneering women musicians.\nFor example Devendra Banhart – Für Hildegard von Bingen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqGUM1TrJgk\nMusic protesting against or raising awareness about gender inequality or injustice\nFor example “my witch” by Lunatraktors reclaims text from a misogynistic poem about witches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FF7x6zRaYs\nMusic about female icons\, past or present\nFor example “Joanni” by Kate Bush about Joan of Arc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peN573rlgM8\nWe would also love to explore music by any woman artist that inspires you.\nNote:\nWe wish to provide an open forum for people to share music that is meaningful to them without censorship\, including sensitive topics and explicit language.
