SUMMARY:Expert Insight panel discussion: Shaping the future of AI and human rights
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion on one of the most urgent questions of our time: do we need an international AI Bill of Human Rights? \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the launch of a major new White Paper from the University of Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI exploring one of the most urgent questions of our time: Do we need an international AI Bill of Human Rights? \nThe event will feature Yuval Shany\, former Chair of the UN Human Rights Committee and Inaugural Accelerator Fellow at the Institute\, who will make the case for a new bill to address critical gaps in existing international human rights law. The White Paper outlines seven foundational rights for the age of AI\, including: the right to access AI\, privacy protections\, anti-bias and fairness\, algorithmic transparency\, freedom from manipulation\, meaningful human decision-making and interaction\, and accountability for the use of AI. \nThese ideas will be examined and discussed by a distinguished panel of experts: \n\nRobert Spano\, former President of the European Court of Human Rights\nKate Jones\, CEO of the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum\nCaroline Green\, Director of Research at the Institute for Ethics in AI and a leading voice on the ethics of care\n\nThis timely discussion brings together law\, policy\, ethics\, and technology to explore how human rights can be protected—and reimagined—in an AI-driven world. Essential for policymakers\, legal professionals\, technologists\, researchers\, and anyone interested in the responsible governance of AI. The session will conclude with dedicated time for audience Q&A and discussion. \nPlease note: there will be a photographer present at this event. If you do not consent to the Institute using your image(s)\, please make yourself known to a member of staff. \n\nLocation\n\n\n\nSimpkins Lee Theatre (Lady Margaret Hall)\n\nNorham Gardens \nOxford OX2 6QA \n\n\n\n\n
