SUMMARY:Megalith
DESCRIPTION:Rocks. Beats. Geological bodies. Stone circles. Copper mining.\nBoth an immersive physical theatre production and interactive installation artwork\, Megalith invites audiences into a wild new encounter with rocks\, sound and light. A fun\, loud and lyrical smash-fest\, with projection design from award-winning Limbic Cinema and geological consultation with Professor Jon Blundy. \nWith copper having jet-fuelled technology for the last 10\,000 years\, the Megalith theatre show sees a performer and sound artist playfully duet to deep-time techno\, metamorphic soundscapes and the Internet of Things. Neolithic flint tools smash stones and tech in this wildly physical journey to the origins – and 21st-century challenges – of mining. \nAlongside the performance\, audiences can get hands-on with the Megalith installation: mine stone with antlers like a Neolithic miner\, lie back and listen to the slow geological rumble of rocks\, or wander with magic stones within a giant stone circle as lights dance and flow around you. \nGet yer strata on… \n  \nMECHANIMAL is a multi-award-winning creative company based in Bristol\, presenting live performance and immersive experiences that explore life on a changing planet. The company\, led by creative director Tom Bailey\, tours work both in the UK and internationally\, recently presenting work in the UK\, Norway\, China and Colombia. Megalith is kindly supported by FAMOS\, Arts Council England\, Professor Jon Blundy and the Oxford Cultural Programme.

SUMMARY:Hebrides Ensemble: Beethoven / Goya
DESCRIPTION:Marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death\, Beethoven / Goya brings two revolutionary artists into dialogue through live music\, art and spoken word.\nWorking at the dawn of the nineteenth century\, Beethoven and Goya lived through periods of profound personal and political upheaval. This performance explores the striking parallels between their lives and work\, and how each transformed personal challenges into art of extraordinary power. \nPraised by The Guardian for their “vivid\, beautifully judged performances”\, musicians from Hebrides Ensemble perform a sequence of movements from Beethoven’s string quartets\, tracing a path from the invention and energy of his early works to the emotional depth and intensity of his late music. \nInterwoven with the artists’ own words\, projections of Goya’s striking paintings and new music by Sonia Allori\, whose composition Random eddies (In the space time continuum) was described by Disability Arts Online as “a deliciously ethereal work”\, this performance will create a richly layered conversation between music\, image and text. \nPart of Beethoven is Everywhere\, celebrating Beethoven’s extraordinary legacy\, 200 years after his death. \n  \nPerformers\nHebrides Ensemble ensemble \n  \nRepertoire\nNew music from Sonia Allori  \nMovements from Ludwig van Beethoven String Quartets: \nOp.18 No.3 in D Major\, I: Allegro con brio 8’  \nOp.18 No.6 in B-flat Major\, IV: Finale ‘La Malinconia’ Adagio-Allegretto quasi Allegro 8’ \nOp.59 No.1 in Bb Major\, II: Allegretto vivace e sempre scherzando 9’  \nOp.95 No.11 in F minor\, IV: Largetto espressivo-Allegretto agitato-Allegro 5’ \nOp.130 in E-flat Major V: Cavatina\, Adagio molto espressivo 6’  \nOp.133 Grosse Fuge in B-flat Major 16’
